Is It in the Genes? A Journey into the World of Travel
Growing up in Montana, vacations meant camping or road trips to visit family in Oregon. It wasn’t until I was 14, when I took my first plane ride to visit my brother in Seattle, that I discovered the thrill of travel. That experience sparked something within me. In high school, a band trip to Portland, OR, followed by a drive to the Oregon Coast, opened up a whole new world before my eyes.
After leaving college, I attended the International Air Academy to pursue a career in the airline industry (yes, there were schools like that!). Upon graduation, I began working for a small regional airline in my hometown, and my love affair with travel and exploring new destinations truly began. My mother always said I got the travel bug from my Ojichan (my Japanese grandfather), who traveled the world with an insatiable curiosity.
Working in the travel industry and becoming a travel agent allowed me not only to satisfy my own wanderlust but also to share my experiences and expertise with others. At 31, I joined the Navy, which gave me a new way to see the world. After the military, I explored various careers, but the typical 9-5 grind never felt right for me. Meanwhile, I continued planning trips for friends and family. Recently, an opportunity arose that allowed me to become my own boss and focus on what I love most (besides traveling): planning travel experiences for others. With over 20 years in the travel industry, I have come back to what truly makes me happy.
